Happy Trails exclusive PD (Paris Dakar) Nerf design for the ultimate in KLR650 protection. Loops of 5/8 inch tubular steel protect the expensive fuel tank and shrouds on your bike.

Included in the package is our exclusive fourth generation engine guard-highway peg combination (EG-4). The EG-4's one inch steel base tube adds additional support and provides highway pegs, giving the rider many more choices in riding positions for greater comfort mile after mile. The highway pegs provide bonus protection for the engine side cases, and they easily fold-up when not in use.

Important Note: The PD Nerf protection setup cannot be run with our reservoir / radiator guard assembly . Also note that they do not clear the shrouds of an IMS gas tank.

Weight: PD Nerf Uppers 7 lbs
Weight: EG-4 engine guard/highway peg combo 4.5 lbs.

Color: Black powder coat only.

Note: The EG4 is required for this installation, but you may opt out of the EG4 if you already have it.

  • DO the KLR parts fit the 1990 Tengai? I think so but need to double check. Thanks, Dan
Question by: Daniel Lay on 2019-01-05 04:35:00

The Tengai is a breed apart and the PD Nerfs, SU Rack, Sl Rack and other parts don't interchange with the "A" Model KLR.

  • I have a radiator guard installed currently on my 2006. Will this mount to the same bolts on the frame? This does not mount to any subframe bolts correct?
Question by: Cutler Polk on 2017-11-28 00:14:00

If you have the Happy Trails Rad Gurd that two are not compatible. It is one or the other due to to the top bolts.

  • Hello there! I just bought a 2003 klr 650 to bring to South America at the end of the summer. It came with a set of highway pegs with front engine guard. It looks almost exactly like your but there are no bolts to fasten the crash bars to. I was wondering if the bolt that tightens the crash bars to the highway pegs would be enough? Or would it be possible to weld this the the existing highway peg setup? Just trying o aboid spending 80$ on a part I already have. Thanks!
Question by: Stephen on 2017-04-20 20:35:00

You could make a part and weld it on the existing hiway peg.

Check out the instructions and you will see that the part is a heavy duty sleeve. If you are buying the upper engine gurds we can supply the part for you to weld on the hiway peg.

  • Will this work with the 6 gallon IMS oversized tank?
Question by: Chuck Kubilius on 2017-04-11 18:31:00

This is what our listing states:

The PD Nerf Bars do not fit with the IMS tank; modifying them is impractical because of the resulting overall width. Click HERE to see the combination we offer for the IMS tank application.

I have always consider the IMS tank as protection since it eliminates the fairings.

  • Looking to add the 10gal tank. Will these work with the ims 10gal?
Question by: Jeff on 2017-01-17 04:02:00

The PD Nerf is not compatible with the 10 gal IMS. The IMS offers adquate protection so you really can ride without them.

  • Will these work with my original plastic skid plate? (I was reading some forums, and one suggested it would not?) I have a 1999 KR 650 and wanted a good engine/plastic parts guard, I think nerf bard with the "EG3" would be a good choice?Thank you for your response.
Question by: Todd Machler on 2016-02-07 03:08:00

The original plastic piece will not work, it is at best a gravel deflector and offers no protection to vulenrable engine cases.

We suggest that an aluminum skid palte be used to protect the investment
