Our first highway peg was introduced in early 1991 for the KLR. It has proven immensely popular and is now in its third design generation. Solid and well built, the highway pegs give the rider many more choices in riding positions—this means greater rider comfort mile after mile. A bonus of the highway pegs is protection for the engine side cases. This comes from both the one inch steel base tube and the top loop of three-quarter inch tubular steel. Our goal is to build the EG-3 as light as possible with the strength KLR rider’s need. The addition of the metal screen helps keep small sharp rocks from cutting away at water hoses and electrical wires. It also offers protection from roosted rocks. Unlike other engine guards that transfer the impact to the engine case, the EG-3 is built to take punishment.
The '08+ KLR utilizes triangular engine mounts to attach the plastic skid plate. Our system eliminates these mounts and therefore the stock plastic skid plate can no longer be used.
Our skid plate can be added separately (you can select it below and to the left) and will greatly enhance protection to the engine crankcase.
The pictures show the EG-3 with our skid plate. The EG-3 can be run by itself or as a combo with the PD Nerf upper tank guards. You can see part of the PD Nerf uppers in the picture as well.The EG3 will work with the SW Motech skid plate but will not work with the SW Motech crash bars.
